MDI is derived from the values instilled by our late father Mr. Samson Wiseman Mgobozi and our mother Mrs. Irene Xoliswa Mgobozi. Both Mr. SW Mgobozi and his wife Mrs. IX Mgobozi grew up with limited access to education with the plight of poverty being a daily reality. However, their determination, hard work and thirst for a better life allowed them to turn their lives around.
Through self-improvement and various business initiatives they were able to secure a better life for their family. They invested in their children’s education and constantly reminded them that education is the ultimate legacy that no one can take away from you. Through self-development, they capacitated themselves in business and instilled good business acumen in their children. They instilled values of servant leadership and giving back to the community, through enabling the empowerment of others.
Mr. and Mrs. Mgobozi passed the baton to their children including the late son, Dr. SG Mgobozi who was a medical doctor and an entrepreneur with various business interests. Dr. Mgobozi’s upbringing and involvement in family businesses set him apart as an entrepreneur. At the time of his untimely passing, he was involved in various business initiatives and acts of kindness. He valued education as the one tools for breaking the cycle of poverty in families.
The baton has been passed on to ensure that the seed that was planted by both Mr. and Mrs. Mgobozi, cultivated by their only son continues to fruitification through the efforts of the Mgobozi Developmental Initiatives (MDI). MDI commits to pass on the baton to the next generation, as it exists to empower young people that will continue to lift others as they rise, breaking the poverty cycle in families. “A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.” - Rumi
